The exhibition Out of Nowhere gives Almere something that old cities naturally possess: their own myths. Seven artists each create a new story for this place. They look at what lay underwater, but also at how myths originate. Which creatures, forces, or events give a city character?
Why do people believe in mermaids or monsters? Because stories enrich the world. Because then you see not only what is there, but also what could be there. The artists invite you to think for yourself: which story do you think belongs to Almere? Which legend fits here?
Out of Nowhere is an invitation to look at Almere anew – with room for facts ánd imagination. For fantasy does not replace reality. It gives it extra meaning.
The artists who have created new work for the exhibition are: Anders Dickson, Carmen Schabracq, Daniel Dmyszewicz, Marnix van Uum, Müge Yilmaz, Natalia Papaeva, and Wessel Verrijt. Poet Roberta Petzoldt wrote new poems specifically for the exhibition to accompany the artworks. A special publication with illustrations by Juliane Noll is also available accompanying the exhibition.

Grensloos Kunst Verkennen (exploring art without boundaries) is a visual art route that is uniquely and temporarily on display in the villages of De Wijk (Drenthe) and IJhorst (Overijssel), and in the landscape of the border river Reest. It is a biennial, so the selection is entirely new every two years. This year, the route’s theme is: “Beauty can be found,” inviting visitors to pause at each artwork and go in search of beauty.
The landscape through which the Reest meanders is a beautiful area for relaxing, walking, cycling, and enjoying the scenery, including the many storks. It is an area worth returning to. The art on display is more than worth exploring further. The route is 10 kilometers long and very suitable for walking or cycling. The art route can also be visited in sections over several days.
Grensloos Kunst Verkennen 2026 is the 14th edition.

Perspectives on growing older in an aging society
In a society obsessed with the pursuit of eternal youth, museum van Bommel van Dam presents the first major exhibition devoted to aging. From 24 January to 14 June 2026 the art museum in Venlo will stage the group exhibition Grey! Art on Aging. Through the work of international contemporary artists, the exhibition explores how we see and experience growing older in an aging society - from ageism and cultural representation to the beauty of the changing body and the relationships between generations. Featuring photographs, videos, paintings, installations and drawings by renowned artists, Grey! offers a rich reflection on one of the defining challenges of our time.

I’m interested in the collectivity of folk art versus the individuality of contemporary art. My work is colorful, decorative and somewhat humoristic on first sight but is built on complex layers. Inspired by folklore, mythology and (ancient) art history from various cultures over the world. I research collective visual memory, trans-generational story telling and theatricality of life and death. Ancient art and folklore are often pre-patriarchal where the woman is both an erotic and maternal symbol at the same time. This is the inspiration for the carnal feminist aspect in my work.
My materials are textile, painting, ceramics, papier-maché and wool. Also performance has been an important form.
